In post pandemic era, people are slowly reconnecting to their roots especially in health. Where earlier people would run to a chemist or a dispensary to avail a quick fix for their cold or allergies, nowadays people are looking at organic options that causes less toxic side effects & seeks to build immunity from within.
With onset of winter, allergic cough’s, sore throat , dry coughs and sneezing will become seasonal visitors with ability to stay on for a prolonged duration. While OTC medications will help you recover or to manage the illness, it does not work towards building your overall resistance.
Ayurveda recommends Ginger & Basil tea for numerous coughs, sneezes & sore throat. It helps in reducing stress induced fatigue. Ginger & Basil Tea also acts as anti-inflammatory medicine. They help to reduce the severity of dry cough & allergic coughs. In addition, the ginger – Basil tea also warms your body from inside.
So how do we prepare this wonderous Tea & what ingredients are needed?
Ingredients:
Dry Ginger powder (Sukku) – 1tsp
Tulsi (Holy Basil) – 5-15 leaves
Pepper – a pinch
Clove – 1or 2
Cardamom – 1 (crushed)
Cinnamon- a small piece
Tea Leaves or dust – Acc to your taste
Honey –
Milk (optional)
Method
Heat water over a stove.
When it comes to boil. Add all the ingredients. (tear the leaves of Tulsi for more aroma & effect)
Boil it until reduced to half or until you get the decoctions of your liking.
Strain.
Add Honey and/or milk.
Drink Hot.
Note:
This tea will take at least 3 days to show effect when taken regularly. However, it is not a cure all for cough, In case your cough takes intensive turn, visit a doctor.
Side Note:
Regular consumption of Basil leaves/tea is said to reverse or heal the damage to lungs caused by Tuberculosis or by extensive smoking. They are also great in soothing arthritic pains.
