    Summer with it brings the unquenchable thirst for refreshing drinks. While various refreshments are available easily, they are loaded with sugars which makes them a least attractive option for people suffering from diabetes and those who are fitness conscious.

    Here are 5 sugar free nutritious & delicious Juices & smoothies for people suffering from diabetes & for those who are looking for healthy alternatives.

    Sugar Free Cucumber and apple juice

    Chill 1 cup of chopped cucumber and chopped apple.
    Blend the chilled cucumber and apple.
    Squeeze ½ a lemon
    Enjoy the healthy cucumber and apple juice immediately

    Cucumber apple juice is very nutritious and can be good as a morning drink as it is sugar free. The fiber from apples and water content of cucumber can help you to detox your body. The soluble fibre from apples can help a diabetic patient to regulate blood sugar.

    Carrot spinach juice

    Clean and chop one cup of carrots and spinach.
    Take an inch piece of ginger and chop a few celery sticks.
    Blend all the chopped vegetables
    Add lemon juice to the blended juice.
    Drink the carrot and spinach juice immediately.

    This juice is good for a diabetic patient.

    Carrot is excellent for the eye. Carrots are sweet but help in blood regulation and so can be consumed even by a person with diabetes.

    Spinach is exceptionally good for a diabetic patient even if they eat it in relatively large quantities. This water-soluble veggie has a negligible effect on blood sugar, making it a good food to choose if you are following a diabetic diet that’s rich in fiber and protein.
    Spinach also contains beta carotene, vitamins A and C, calcium, which will also provide multiple health benefits.

    Celery is rich in magnesium and potassium which are essential to treat and prevent high blood pressure. Celery contains minerals and sodium that will help to regulate blood pressure.

    Sugar Free Bitter gourd juice

    Clean and deseed the bitter gourd. Cut into pieces. Take one cup of karela pieces.
    Blend karela pieces well with enough water.
    Add lemon juice and salt.
    Mix well and drink it immediately.

    Bitter gourd juice is excellent for those with diabetes. Bitter gourd has active substances with anti-diabetic properties. It contains charantin, which is known for its blood glucose-lowering effect. Bitter gourd also contains an insulin-like compound called Polypeptide-p or p-insulin which controls diabetes naturally. These substances are good individually or together to help reduce blood sugar levels.

    Amla juice (Gooseberry Juice)

    Take a cup of cut amla pieces after removing the seed.
    Add an inch of ginger and black salt.
    Blend and add enough water.
    Mix well and drink immediately.

    Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry, is the powerhouse of Vitamin-C. Amla has amazing medicinal properties as well that can help reduce risk of many chronic diseases – Diabetes, Cancer, Heart Disease, Hypertension, gut issues, kidney problems among others. Drinking amla juice can do wonders to manage diabetes as it is rich in soluble fibre, which helps digestion and enables slow release of sugar in the bloodstream.

    Tomato juice or Sugar Free Tomato – Cucumber Smoothie

    Take 1 cup of chopped tomatoes
    Take ¼ cup of chopped cucumber
    Take 1 clove of garlic
    Blend all the above
    Add curd and salt
    Mix well and juice is ready
    You can add some mint sprigs for freshness.
    Drink immediately

    For people with type 2 diabetes, tomato juice may help with the heart troubles that often complicate the disease.

    Drinking tomato juice regularly can have a blood-thinning effect in people with the disease. Tomato juice reduces “platelet aggregation” — the blood’s ability to clot. In diabetes patients, platelets tend to be more sticky. People with type 2 diabetes have an increased risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular problems, such as heart attack and stroke. So drinking tomato juice in limited quantities is good for a type 2 diabetes patient.
